I played around in a pitch black room with a torch and slow shutter speeds. Fun!
Painting with light

This was just a fun one that Noah enjoyed helping me out with. He was VERY interested in what I was doing :) He also enjoyed eating the lollypop after!

That is the most clever thing I have seen! When I am back in Canberra I am going to have to get hands on lessons from you. Every photo is amazing.
These are SO cool! You totally inspired me and I just went and played around with long exposures with Charlie (tried doing some vampire ones to start but then gravitated toward something more like the lollipop one). Did you superimpose the object image on the light? So much fun! I bet you had a great time doing this. Nice work!
No, it's not superimposed - just the one photo. I set up the object & camera, then once the shutter was opened I put the light on where I wanted it. Looks like you guys had lots of fun playing around too - its great hey! :)
I'm confused. So did you have two lights? One on the object and then another one to make the moving light? The candle stick looks like it's got a reflection on it? I like colour of the lollipop. And I like how you have different widths of light too (the paint one is cool....a bit like glitter light. The candlestick is more like smoke and the lollipop is more playful). Regardless they are very cool and we definitely had a lot of fun. Charlie is actually asking right now to do the "light thing to draw patterns".
It would be fun to do this with sparklers.
I used one light (a torch). With the candlestick one, once the shutter was opened I did the light going up, and then I shone the torch on the object from behind the camera (all while the shutter was opened, so just the one photo). Make sense?
The others are just the light that you see is where i "drew" it on (the lollypop light facing the camera. The brush light from above shining down creating a more subtle light.)
Yeah, I get it now, thanks for all the explainations:) I think I would lo try keeping the shutter open much longer.
These pictures are amazing! I want to try out something like this now too! I love especially love the painting with light photo. Great job!
