I love the second one too. The lines actually make you feel as though you are being drawn in to the point. The tree lines are are such an Aussie texture. You captured it well.
Re cropping...I am all for it. Sometimes it feel as though I make an entirely different picture when I crop a small part of the original. I read that cropping means you are not a good photographer and that you should learn to fill the frame when you take the picture. I guess that takes years of practice! For now the crop tool is the most used on my editor.
I love the last photo & the crop works really well for it - it's nicely balanced (good use of rule of thirds:) It has a very serene feeling to it. Nice reflection too. I can imagine seeing that photo in a book on Canberra - beautiful!
I really like the idea of the trees - how dense it is, and all the textures & colours are great. I'm not sure if I like the crop in that one though. It looks too sharp - like something is missing..does that make sense? I think it's not seeing the bottom of the trees & seeing more of the top. Maybe if it was more of just the trunks along the middle? Or starting from the bottom and cropping more off the top? (it's hard to say without seeing the original photo) I do like the panorama style though - it suits it well.
I think its fine to crop photos – it’s just about finding a good balance & making sure the composition still works well with the photo. (not that I’m an expert on this…just my opinion! Hope that helps?)
Thanks guys. I'm glad you liked that second one because that's the one I didn't crop! I appreciate your thoughts on cropping too. I was talking to Kalista about it today too and she was saying that every time you crop you loose resolution (so that's an argument against it). I think Bindi that you are right and the ultimate challenge is to be good enough where you do need to do it, but that it's also fun being able to completely change something around in post production. I do agree that the crop in the first one is quite sharp. But I definitely didn't like it any other way and thought it fit the lines theme well. I think i should just go and try and photograph that area again because the original photo wasn't that good. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow and try and put up a better pic before sunday. I loved how dense all those skinny trunks were and the colours too. Eucalyptus are so beautiful and they are the only thing around Bruce I can find that I want photograph (except for this tree down the road that I want to do a silhouette of).

I love all these photos too. I think my favourite is the first one with the trees.
