This picture was too washed out in colour because the sun was right behind her. However I think that the effect in black and white is nice (even with that gappy mouth!)

I agree about the texture. I also like the diagonal lines.
I can see that the photo of Mia would have been too washed out in colour, but the bright light has given it a lovely soft look in B&W. The icy railing is a perfect subject to be done in B&W too. I love the contrasts and the angles in this photo.
Beautiful texture in the ice! Lovely light shining onto it as well.
Do you loose any detail if you make the photo of mia more contrasty? I feel as though it would be good with some darker tones in the photo.
