Melbourne would be (should have been) a great place to take architecture photos but I always had two cranky kids with me and didn't really manage to give it a good go. (the ones I could think to compose were taken in Federation square but they all look to predictable and a bit touristy, which I think can be a trap of taking photos in a category like this, especially when one is on holiday). I took these two when I was waiting for my tram on Bourke St.
I took this one because it reminded me of the photo Bindi took with the tram lines (which I really liked).

(I liked the colours with the green in the windows. Other photos I took picked up the colours better but they don't look quite straight. Something about too many lines and not being close enough maybe?

Great range of photos and effects (I like the rain on the window!!). I don't think the fact that they are of "touristy" things takes away at all from the interest of the photos! I really like the GPO Building, and also the lighthouse looks so idyllic, very beautiful. And the tram lines are cool, great that you could get them in such a pattern and parallel to the roofline of the darker building. Would suggest playing with the council housing one in photoshop... I think the lines and all the windows etc look cool, but would look even better perhaps with interesting effects, or altering the colours to be brighter or different hues? Thanks for the "insight" into your trip, lovely to see the sights from home hehe :)
Beautiful is the first thought that comes to mind! These are great photos! I think the lighthouse looks like a lovely postcard! You did a great job of placing the light house using the rule of thirds. The two I think I love the most though are the shots of the apartment windows and the last photo. I like the cool effect of the water, it almost looks like a painting.
The lighthouse photo is beautiful - i love the colours & the waves breaking.
I like the idea of the council housing too - if you were looking straight on at the same level (rather than looking up) the lines going up would be straight...is that what you mean?
I love the last one looking out the window - beautiful effect. I wouldn't have thought of taking photos out of a rainy window, but it turned out great! Very effective.
I never tire of you're pictures, the colours are so rich.
My fav's are the council housing and the picture from the top of the light house.

I really love your last photo with the rain. I love the way the rainy window distorts everything. I also love the light house. Very beautiful!!
yes, that is what I mean about the lines. even that one isn't straight. I should have crossed the road and looked straight up. I was trying to be inconspicuous. There were all these kids playing out the front of it with their parents and I didn't want them thinking I was taking photos of them.
I'm glad you guys liked the rain photo. It was the only option I had really as it rained a lot of the trip. I took it through the car window so was limited with the angle but I think it worked alright and it says a lot about what it was like to be there that day.
thanks for all the nice comments!
